Track Talk with V. Gaines
Heading into his favorite race of the NHRA season, the O'Reilly Auto Parts Spring Nationals in Houston, Texas, Team Kendall racer V. Gaines is excited to return "home," hit the track, and meet with Phillips 66 Lubricants colleagues and friends. As Gaines points out, he could not compete at his level without the ongoing support of Kendall Motor Oil as well as his crew, who has helped him make necessary changes to enhance his overall performance.
"We've been fine-tuning the car to improve traction," said Gaines. "Every small adjustment makes a large impact when you're competing in the Pro Stock division, where thousandths of seconds can make all the difference. We're excited to see how those adjustments help us reach our goals while at the Houston raceway."
The beginning of Gaines' season was filled with a great deal of building and testing parts. This required the team ot pinpoint which part needed to be replaced, followed by planning, engineering, building and testing each one. In fact, it took from November of last year to make adjustments on the driveline and suspension; howevewr, Gaines is optimistically anticipating his next race.
"Coming off of what I expect to be positive results in Houston, I hope to be in the top 10 [for points] by Labor Day," Gaines added. "I'm elated after our last round and feel positive that we have the tools necessary to do the job. When the car performs well, so does the driver - my reaction time is improving, which is what we need to win races."
We wish V. the best of luck at his homecoming race in Houston, and hope he sees continued success throughout the rest of the racing season!
