In April, Team Kendall racer Vern Moats kicked off his 50th year of racing at the O'Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Spring Nationals at the Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas. After a busy offseason spent making adjustments to his car, Moats was eager to hit the track and start another racing season in the NHRA's Top Alcohol Funny Car Division.
Last season, Moats and his crew experienced several engine problems with his Ford Mustang-bodied Top Alcohol Funny car, so the majority of hte offseason was spent ordering new parts - a clutch and cylinder heads - and testing them in different combinations. Now, Moats is confident they have found the right grouping of enging components and believes teh car will run better than last year.
"Even though we experienced a few obstacles with the engine, it ended up being a good things because we've finally found the right arrangement of parts," Moats shared. "I'm really looking forward to this season, in particular, to see how the car performs."
Throughout his racing career, Moats has finished extremely well in his competitions, qualifying for the NHRA finals almost eveyr year. This season, he hopes to grab the first place title at the 48th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif. Moats attributes much of his success to vehicle safety precautions and his long-time use of Kendall Motor Oil.
"It's improtant to have the right equipment, use exceptional products to increase vehicle performance and test in a safe environment. If you don't, you run the risk of ruining your vehicle and creating more problems in the future," he pointed out. "My advice to young racers is threefold; have good equipment to start with, protect it with a superior product like Kendall Motor Oil, and be careful on your first test run - work on it."
We wish Moats luck throughout the rest of the season, and look forward to seeing him take home the big win at the 2012 NHRA Finals!
