Team Kendall Racer of the Month - March 2012 - Chelsey Wiese
We are pleased to announce 15-year-old Chelsey Wiese as March's Team Kendall Racer of the Month, our first truck puller. Having grown up listening to her father's truck pulling stories, Wiese knew she was destined to be on the track and create a name for herself. As a child, she and her father worked on trucks - taking apart and rebuilding anything they could. In 2011, at the age of 15, Wiese joing Team Kendall and began racing her 1995 Ford F350.
"I wanted to race ever since I was little, but my dad made me wait until I was 14 because he thought I was too young at the time," said Wiese. "I've been around trucks my whole life, so I was really excited once I was able to get behind the wheel! It's fun to be a female truck puller and do different things than the other girls my age."
Upon joining Team Kendall, Wiese started testing her skills at the neigborhood track, Exeter Fairgrounds in Exeter, R.I., and began competing in local races. After a few short months, Wiese reached a pivotal point in her career. In October 2011, she traveled to a truck pull in Fryeburg, Maine, and faced some fierce competition - truck pullers with stronger trucks and bigger motors. Recognizing that she was one of the smalled pullers there, she decided to compete anyway and finished in the top five. From that moment, Wiese's ongoing optimism and dedication allowed her to earn third place in points for the entire 2011 season.
"At the end of the day, racing is about having fun. Even if I don't win, I always congratulate everyone because we'rea ll out here for the same reason," she explained. "I love interacting with the fans that come out to support us, and I never wnat to take any of it for granted."
Wiese will continue to pull in two classes throughout the 2012 season, the 5800lb Four Wheel Dirve Open and the 6200lb Four Wheel Drive Open, and she hopes to take first place in points in both classes. To achieve these goals, Wiese realizes the importance of keeping her truck in top shape. Before every race, she and her dad check the tire pressure and change the oil with Kendall GT-1® High Performance Motor Oil with Liquid Titanium® protection additive. In addition to prepping her truck, Wiese also prepares herself - which includes a special ritual.
"I always wear the necklace my grandmother gave me because it brings me luck and makes me stand out from the rest of the competition," she shared.
Wiese's 2012 season begins in May, when she plans to return with a bigger motor in her Ford F350, and, of course, her lucky charm. "Chelsy has grown a lot as both a competitor and a young lady throughout the past year," said Marketer Wendy Robertson of G.H. Berlin Oil Co. in Hartford, Conn. "I look forward to seeing her continue to excel over the next few years."
Congratulations, Chelsey! We are honored to name you Team Kendall's March Racer of the Month, and we look forward to what the future holds for you.
