Team Kendall Racer of the Month - February 2013 - Tom Bell

02/28/2013

To kick off our 2013 Racer of the Month program, we're thrilled to award long-time Team Kendall member Tom Bell of Wheatfield, Ind., this accolade for February. Bell began racing dirt bikes and ATVs at the age of 14; and after 22 years of achieving feature wins, he decided to transition into the more competitive United Midwest Promoters (UMP) Modified class at his local track, Shady Hill Speedway in Medaryville, Ind.

"My dad always had Hot Rods and used to drag race when I was younger, so he's been by my side for the past 13 years assisting with car maintenance and tweaking my driving technique," shared Bell. "We've put a lot of hours into racing, but it's definitely worth it. Out of all 43 of my feature wins, my proudest accomplishment was my first win in the UMP Modified division."

In 2009, Bell moved up to the elite UMP Modified division where he experienced one of his toughest seasons in his racing career. Now facing stronger competitors with bigger engines, he had to figure out a way to harmonize his new Buzzard Stage 3 Chassis with his personal driving style. After five years and several second place titles, Bell was able to overcome the learning curve and took home his first feature win in the new division. His comfort level grew even more the following season when he grabbed back-to-back wins. "I feel like I'm finally getting the hang of things again, so I'm really excited to start the new season!" Bell exclaimed.

Now entering his eighth year with Team Kendall, Bell recognizes the importance of superior oil and the impact it can have out on the race track. "I'm extremely grateful for Quality Oil providing me with Kendall GT-1® High Performance Motor Oil with Liquid Titanium® protection additive because I've been able to save time and money by not having to change my oil as much. In fact, my engine builder has bragged to his colleagues about my car's engine being so clean every time he tears it down," he said while laughing.

Bell's sponsor, Mary Louise Rieger of Quality Oil, Inc. in Valparaiso, Ind., is looking forward to rooting on the racer this season. "Tom is one of our long-standing Team Kendall racers, and it is great to see him as the February Racer of the Month," she added. "We wish him a successful racing year."

This season, Bell will split his Saturday night races between Shady Hill Speedway and a new local track, Plymouth Speedway in Plymouth, Ind. His goal is to finish in the top ten and win at least one feature win at both tracks. Bell is also scheduled to compete at several other tracks in Indiana, Illinois and Michigan throughout the season.

Congratulations, Tom! We're proud that you remain an important part of Team Kendall after all these years and wish you the best of luck in your 2013 season.
