Team Kendall Racer of the Month - April 2013 - Dave Gruzen

Dave Gruzen of Lakewood, Calif., is a natural on the track - and he's accomplished a lot since he first started racing more than 30 years ago. However, it's Gruzen's work ethic, positive attitude and consistency that make him stand out from the crowd and have earned him the title of Racer of the Month for April.

This veteran racer has been a member of the Team Kendall family for nearly 12 years and grabbed the Racer of the Month accolade for the first time back in 2011. "I wouldn't be where I'm at today without the help of Kendall Motor Oil," shared Gruzen. "I'm honored to be given the opportunity to represent Team Kendall as Racer of the Month once again."

"We're thrilled that Dave Gruzen has once again been named Racer of the Month," added Marketer Joe Zavilla of Cosby Oil in Santa Fe Springs, Calif. "He is a geniune guy both on and off the track, and I can't think of anyone who deserves this award more."

Since we last caught up with Gruzen, he has continued to see success on the track, competing in the Nostalgia Eliminator 1 class for both the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Racing Series and the American Nostalgia Racing Association (ANRA). He closed the 2011 season finishing first in points for the ANRA and remains a heavy hitter in this highly competitive class, staying within the top five for points year after year. Gruzen attributes his consistency to his pre-race rituals that he's practiced since he first started racing.

"I always arrive the night before a race and fire up the engine while I go through a mental checklist, making sure everything runs smoothly," Gruzen admitted. "This way, if something is off - whether it's the gears, engine tune-up or tires - I have the entire night to make any necessary changes."

Similar to years past, Gruzen kicked off the 2013 season at the annual Bakersfield March Meet at the Auto Club Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, Calif., where he sported an updated 1927 Ford T-Altered. The new car was dubbed the name "Mighty Mouse 2" after Gruzen retired his original 1923 Ford T-Bucket, "Mighty Mouse," earlier this year. He's hopeful that "Mighty Mouse 2" will bring him good luck on the track as he fights for the first place spot once again.

We congratulate Gruzen on being a two-time Team Kendall Racer of the Month winner and look forward to watching him this season and in the years to come.
