Team Kendall Racer of the Month - March 2014 - Jayson Barber

Jayson Barber, a motorcyclist from Salisbury, N.C., is one of our newest Team Kendall members, and we're pleased to announce him as our Racer of the Month for March! After spending the majority of his life riding and restoring motorcycles with his father while racing occasionally, Barber has decided to test his skills competitively in the BUB Motorcycle Speed Trials at Bonneville Salts Flats Speedway near Salt Lake City this August.

"Racing competitively is always something I've wanted to do but, unfortunately, I've never has the time or funds to make it happen," shared Barber. "A couple years ago, my father had a serious cancer diagnosis, and that's when everything was put into perspective. I knew if we wanted to attempt a land speed record, we needed to make it happen now because you never know what could happen tomorrow."

Last year, Barber and his father began working on his 2006 Harley Davidson Sportster with hopes of competing in the Pushrod Super Charge Open Fuel class at the speed trials in August. Barber continued, "We've spent nearly two years preparing for this race - it's both exciting and nerve-racking."

Although Barber is new to the land speed racing scene, he's spent years drag racing cars and motorcycles recreationally at his local track, Mooresville Dragway in Mooresville, N.C. In addition, he's confident that his family's support will help give him the strength and motivation to succeed.

"My family means the world to me, and I hope to make them proud by racing well and responsibly," said Barber. "That's why I'm honored to be a part of the Kendall Motor Oil family - because it's a brand that values safety and exudes that 'family' mentality."

Barber's sponsor, Stephen Isgett of Isgett Distributors in Asheville, N.C., shared his thoughts on the racer, "Jayson is a smart, motivated individual, and we're happy to have him on-board with Team Kendall this year. We look forward to watching him compete this August."

Looking ahead, Barber plans to put the finishing touches on his Harley Davidson, prepare for the cross-country journey to Bonneville, and mentally prepare for the wide open flat run. His goal for the trials is to set the new speed record in his class.

We congratulate Jayson on being named our March Racer of the Month and wish him the best of luck at his first land speed record attempt!
