Team Kendall Racer of the Month - April 2014 - Bobby Richey Jr.

Two years ago, Bobby Richey came out of his racing retirement when he joined Team Kendall. Since then, he's continued to impress his community and peers, and we're thrilled to name him our Racer of the Month for April.

When Richey first returned to the track, his biggest concern was getting his vehicle up-to-speed to adhere to the new regulations as well as brushing up on his driving technique. He never imagined he'd become one of the top contenders for the championship title so quickly upon his return.

"I've been racing since I was a kid. I've spent more than 15 years racing competitively behind the wheel and another five years as the crew chief for my cousin's car. However, I eventually got married and decided to focus my efforts on raising a family," shared Richey. "After visiting the track a few times to watch local races with my wife Laura, she could tell I was itching to get on the track and convinced me to return to racing."

In 2012, Richey and his crew chief Nick Patterson made their way to the racetrack for the first time in six years to participate in the highly competitive Crate Late Model division. "We treated the first couple of races as test runs to get comfortable in the car again. By the third race, we were racing to win; we finished third out of 24 drivers," explained Richey.

The following year, Richey continued to impress as he finished in the number two spot in points at his local track Cleveland Speedway in Cleveland, Tenn.

When asked what makes him a strong competitor, Richey responded with three reasons: his family, the sponsorship from Hunter Oil Company that includes the support of Kendall Motor Oil, and a reliable engine. Richey continued, "I've surrounded myself with quality people and quality products, including Kendall Motor Oil. I truly believe this is what gives me a leg up on the competition because I can trust that my vehicle is being taken care of."

Richey's sponsoring Marketer, Charlie Hunter of Hunter Oil Company in Chattanooga, Tenn., chimed in with mutual feelings, "Bobby is one the most competitive racers in our area. He comes from a great racing family with an excellent reputation, and we're proud to be associated with him. A long as Bobby can sit in a race car, Hunter Oil Company will be his sponsor."

Richey recently kicked off his 2014 season and hopes to take hoe the championship title this fall.

Congratulations, Bobby, on being named our Racer of the Month for April! We wish you the best of luck this season.
