March Team Kendall Racer of the Month – Charles McLaws

We are excited to announce that Charles McLaws of Winslow, Ariz., has been selected as the March Team Kendall Racer of the Month.

McLaws, whose passion for cars began while working in his father’s Texaco gas station, hit the Winslow Drag Strip for the first time in May 1967 at 16 years old.  More than 20 drag cars and 40 years after that first race, McLaws’ passion for the sport remains just as strong.

“There’s nothing like the exhilaration of going from 0 to 100 miles per hour in less than a second,” said McLaws.  “When I’m sitting at the starting line, my motor revving at 6000 RPMs and 2000 horsepower under me, I let the clutch go to move out of the gate and feel alive!”

McLaws, who credits his wife, Elizabeth, as inspiring him and igniting his competitive spirit since they met, is aiming to qualify for his first NHRA national event at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway April 16-18.  Further, this eight-year Team Kendall veteran has charged himself with shaving more than a second from his current best time and running in the five-second zone with his custom-painted 2003 Pontiac Firebird.  This commitment to performance extends from the track to the preparation involved prior to each race, including building, installing and repairing his car with the assistance of his crew, including Chris Stinson, Mike Beeson, Dave Caswell and the late Ron Miller.
