GEAR SHIELD®

CHLORINE-FREE, SOLVENT-CUTBACK OPEN GEAR LUBRICANT

Phillips 66® Gear Shield is an adhesive, residual-compounded extreme-pressure gear lubricant designed with a low-viscosity sacrificial diluent for easy application. It is ideal for lubricating and cushioning open and semi-enclosed gears on stationary equipment such as SAG mills, ball/rod mills, kilns, and paper mills. It can also be used for cable-actuated equipment like marine winches.

Gear Shield is engineered to deliver exceptional load-carrying capacity, protecting heavily loaded gears from scoring and galling. During operation, the diluent helps carry dirt and debris away from the gear's working surfaces, while the remaining lubricant forms a durable, tenacious film that adheres firmly to metal surfaces. This protective film resists hardening or flaking at low temperatures, provides excellent water washout resistance, and shields gears from rust and corrosion.

Available in multiple grades, Gear Shield performs reliably across a wide range of operating temperatures, making it suitable for diverse industrial applications.

GEAR SHIELD®

Features & Benefits

  • Excellent adhesion to metal surfaces
  • Forms a heavy, tenacious film to lubricate and cushion gear teeth
  • Good extreme-pressure properties for protection under heavy or shock loads
  • Good resistance to water washout
  • Protects against rust and corrosion
  • Will not flake off at low temperatures
  • Drains freely from gear guards
  • Does not contain any chlorine, lead or carcinogens
  • Easy application, by spraying, brushing or dripping
  • Suitable for use with automatic lubrication equipment

Applications

  • Open and semi-enclosed gears, such as those found on mining ball and rod mills, cement mills, drying kilns, and papermaking machinery and presses
  • Mills used to process minerals such as gold, copper, iron, taconite and phosphate
  • Guides and sliding surfaces with large clearances, where asphaltic-type lubricants are specified
  • Cables on draglines, clamshells, shovels, hoists and other cable-operated equipment where cable clamp safety devices are not used
